ARGENTINA AND ITS FORESTS

“Misionera” rain forests: mixed subtropical forests with major biodiversity and multistorey stands 20 to 30 m tall

“Tucumano-Boliviana” rain forests: submontane and montane subtropical forests with various types of mixed forest, depending on altitude

“Chaqueño” parkland: deciduous xerophilous stands with scrubland, grassland and palm stands

“Monte” woodland: extensive dry areas with low forest cover, especially xerophilous bushy steppe

“Espinal” scrubland: deciduous xerophilous woodland interspersed with palm stands, grassy savannah, grassy steppe and bushy steppe

“Andino-Patagónico” forest: a belt of temperate forest stretching along the Andes for about 3 000 km, made up predominantly of broad-leaved species, with some conifer stands.

Argentina also has 1.1 million hectares of planted forests of fast-growing exotic species (mainly pines, eucalyptus and willows).
